I know a lot of people that can’t wait to take their annual cruises just to buy jewelry at discounted rates in other countries.

There could however be a problem going through customs with jewelry you currently own. If you are traveling with real expensive pieces of jewelry, you should take your current appraisal or receipt of purchase with you to prove you did not buy that piece while on the cruise. That’s another reason to travel with costume or replica designer jewelry. Customs would not question that type of jewelry like they would more expensive jewelry.

When preparing your outfits for travelling, pick pieces of jewelry that can be worn with several of your outfits. This way you won’t have as much to take with you or purchase prior to your trip.

Make sure that you are wearing minimal jewelry when having to go through security at the airport. Normally things like your rings won’t set off the detectors, however some necklaces and bracelets and dangling earrings will. It’s best not to have to take off all that jewelry when going through the security. If you are carrying jewelry with you in a carry on and you do not have it in a travel jewelry case, place each individual piece in a baggie and then all the baggies into one large baggie. If you have chains, you can drape them over a small piece of cardboard with slits in them so they don’t tangle. I use those snack size baggies for mine and they work out perfect.

Do not travel with pieces of jewelry that are very important to you even if they are insured. Even though they can be placed monetarily, the sentiment cannot be replaced and there is no amount of insurance money that can replace that for you.
